Rihanna is an R&B, pop and Reggae singer, and a former model and beauty queen. In her relatively short music career of four years, she has sold over 12 million albums worldwide. She made her debut in music with her studio album ‘Music of the Sun’. This album made it to the top ten of the Billboard 200, while the single ‘Pon de Replay’ was featured in the Billboard Hot 100. Rihanna’s second album ‘A Girl Like Me’ was also a chart buster, while the third one ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ got her nine nominations at the Academy Awards, winning the ‘Best Rap/Sung Collaboration’ Award for ‘Umbrella’.
Rihanna was honored with the ‘World’s Best-Selling Pop Female Artist’ Award in 2007 at the World Music Awards and in 2008 she received the American Music Award for ‘Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist’ and ‘Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist’. Even though several critics have have looked at her lyrics as lacking innovation, Rihanna continues to be one of the most celebrated music icons ever.
This year, Rihanna was involved in a case of domestic violence involving her then-boyfriend Chris Brown. Pictures of her showing severe injuries that she’d sustained were leaked from the LAPD office and found its way to TMZ.com. This caused an organization called TOParazzi to propose a law that would prevent the release of information and photos of victims by law enforcement agencies.
Rihanna has also attempted to try her hand at movies and debuted in ‘Bring it On: All or Nothing’ in a small cameo. Rihanna has been signed for another movie ‘Personal Protection’ that will start some time later this year. In addition to this, she also appeared in ‘Paranoid’, Kanye West’s music video.
